By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand the environment and key characteristics of the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries, as well as the key elements of the career-planning process;
- Demonstrate greater awareness of their own interests, skills, strengths, and motivations;
- Broaden their awareness of career opportunities relevant to graduates in biomedical science;
- Understand how to approach prospective employers and present their skills, experience, and competencies effectively in a curriculum vitae (CV);
- Identify specific personal actions to support their ongoing career development and professional growth.
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries and to introduce key principles of career planning and professional development. It seeks to help students identify and articulate their interests, skills, strengths, and motivations, while broadening their awareness of career opportunities available to graduates in biomedical science. The course also aims to develop students’ ability to communicate their skills and experience effectively to prospective employers, particularly through the preparation of a professional curriculum vitae (CV), and to encourage them to develop a personalized action plan to support their ongoing career development and professional growth.
The course will be delivered through a series of seminars covering career opportunities, recruitment processes, and academic and professional pathways in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical sectors. Each seminar will be followed by interactive question-and-answer discussions.
· Seminar series led by HR and recruitment experts, and professionals from the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries and academia.
· Practical presentations on recruitment, career opportunities, and academic and professional pathways.
· Interactive question-and-answer sessions and discussions.
Assessment will be based on a practical and reflective approach to career planning and professional development. Students will be required to prepare a professional curriculum vitae (CV), identify and articulate their interests, skills, strengths, and motivations, and develop a concrete action plan to secure a professional internship as a stepping stone towards their first employment. The assessment will also consider students’ ability to develop a coherent and realistic career development plan.
