C2W | Come to Wallonia | Connect with Wallonia

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 101034383.

C2W | Come to Wallonia | Connect with Wallonia The new fellowship program Connect with Wallonia – Come 2 Wallonia” (C2W) is an individual-driven research training and career development program for Experienced Researchers (ERs), based on incoming mobility. C2W aims to provide ERs with the expertise and experience needed to become the next generation of leaders with strong expertise and interdisciplinary skills.

C2W will offer 30 fellowships of 24 months each. C2W will have a bottom-up approach, which means that Fellows will be free to choose their research topic (provided it falls within the competence of 21 research institutes of UMONS or UNamur,) and their principal supervisor (more than 400 possible Principal Investigators (PIs)). C2W offers a free choice between UMONS and UNamur as host institution.

30 Fellows will have the opportunity to deepen their core scientific discipline while broadening their range of scientific skills. They will implement a research project with a strong interdisciplinary aspect. They will have the opportunity to widen their professional networks at the international level, which will provide them with advanced career opportunities.

To support the career development of the ERs, C2W offers an extensive training program, including research-based training, secondment, summer/winter school, options for additional scientific and transferable skills such as leadership, ‘out of the box’ thinking and Open Science abilities, presentations
of research results.

C2W will offer a competitive contract and excellent research conditions to attract outstanding ERs. The evaluation and selection process will follow the principles of the Charter and Code, following the OTM-R (Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment) principles, and will use international peer review.

24/11/2022 | The C2W project brings 15 world-class postdocs to UMONS and UNAMUR

The C2W call for projects offers experienced researchers a unique opportunity to develop new skills and expertise by undertaking a leading research project with a strong interdisciplinary focus. The project has been awarded €4.5 million in European funding (Marie Skłodowska Curie COFUND action).

This news is also available in French here...

As partners in this project, UMONS and UNamur are proud to welcome 15 new researchers in this context. A rigorous selection process, carried out by external panels of international experts, resulted in the selection of research projects in fields as varied as mathematical and theoretical physics, antibiotic resistance, microbiology, pedagogy, robotics, geology, colonialism, ancient and medieval history, and ecology, among others.

These post-doctoral fellows will carry out a 2-year research project. The programme also includes research training and career development. Each of them will be seconded to another sector (company, research centre, etc.) in Belgium or abroad.

What are the objectives? To broaden career paths, to enrich research results, and to gain international exposure. These post-doctoral fellows will also have the opportunity to establish new collaborations and to train new researchers.

For the two partner universities, there is a clear three-fold objective: to strengthen their attractiveness to talented researchers undergoing international mobility programmes, to boost their visibility, and to generate a knock-on effect for other funds.

More information on the projects and profiles of the selected candidates can be found on the C2W project website.
