Exchange students

Are you interested in coming to the University of Namur as part of an exchange programme?

The University's International Relations Office is available for students wanting to come to Namur for a mobility period in the framework of a bilateral exchange programme under

  • ERASMUS+ (studying or training)
  • ERASMUS Belgica
  • or other exchange agreements

You will find all relevant information regarding the administrative procedure below on this page page. Please note that the application procedure is identical for all incoming students, with the exception of internship students.

Internship students will first have to identify a professor at UNamur who is willing to welcome you for an internship. Only if you have the professor's agreement, which he or she has to confirm by notifying us at the International Office, can you complete the application procedure.

Getting an agreement can be done through one of two ways:

1. contact the professor directly, based on his/her research interests which are detailed on the faculty pages and your own interests/plans for the internship and convince the professor that both of you can benefit from you coming to Namur for an internship.

2. have one of your professors at your home university contact one of our professors and promote your interest in doing an internship with the UNamur professor.

Application procedure

Step 1: Go to the application link (provided to you by email) and complete the application form. Please note that only students who have been officially nominated by their home university for an exchange semester should complete the application form. You should only do so after having been invited to do so by the International Relations Department of UNamur.

Step 2: After submitting the form as provided in step 1, you will receive a confirmation email in which you will also be asked to generate a login and password. Please do so, as you will need this information to access the database and to be able to complete your application form by completing your personal data and uploading the documents necessary for your application. Save the database connection information carefully, as you will also need it later, before and throughout your mobility, to help you with practical matters such as downloading your acceptance letter, registration for orientation weeks, accommodation, French as a foreign language course, your visa application (if you come from a non-European country), etc.

Step 3: After generating your login and password, please complete your personal information and upload the necessary documents as indicated in the database.

Step 4: Wait for an official acknowledgment of receipt from the International Relations Department of UNamur, indicating that your application is complete and that you have been accepted for your exchange stay with us. The notification you will receive at that time will also contain further information on the next steps. If you have followed the procedure within the deadlines, you should receive it around May 20 for non-European candidates and June 20 for European candidates for the autumn semester and November 5 (for the spring semester ).

French language courses

French is the main language of instruction at UNamur. Most of the courses are therefore taught in French.

Before coming to Namur

We strongly recommend you try to and improve your French language skills before coming to Namur. Already some basic French skills will help you to more successfully cope with some of the practical challenges that exchange students are confronted with in a new environment.

At UNamur

While it is sure that every day interactions with fellow Belgian students and other people in Namur will help you to learn French in a natural way, the University of Namur also developed a number of initiatives that will allow you to more systematically improve your language skills.

French language course (3 ECTS) during the INTEGRation weeks

As part of the integration weeks organized before the start of the first semester UNamur offers French courses (Français langue étrangère, or: FLE) at the beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The courses are taught in the morning. They are completed with cultural, administrative and/or touristic activities in the afternoon and the evening. Each course is part of the study program and equivalent to 3 ECTS.

French language courses during the semester

Also during the semester UNamur offers FLE courses at the beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The courses are organized by the university's school of modern languages (école des languages vivantes). Each course is taught for 2 hours/week and is worth 3 ECTS. A placement test (that helps to determine the level of each student) is organized at the beginning of each semester

Practical Information

On-campus housing: You will find the different housing options at UNamur on this webpage. Please note that the number of rooms are limited and are distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis (which refers to the order in which you have completed the application procedure detailed above).
