Judgement of merit

 Judgement of merit

"The selection process should take into account the full range of experience acquired by candidates. While focusing on their overall potential as researchers, it should also take into account their creativity and degree of independence.
This means that merit should be judged both qualitatively and quantitatively, focusing on outstanding achievements in a diversified career path and not only on the number of publications. Accordingly, the importance of bibliometric indicators should be properly weighted within a wider range of evaluation criteria, such as teaching, supervision, teamwork, knowledge transfer, research management, innovation and public awareness activities. For applicants from the industrial sector, particular attention should be paid to any contribution to patents, development activities or inventions". (extract from the Charter for European researchers)
