"Welcome to Schengen" insurance policy
This insurance could be required in two circumstances:
- You are already in Belgium and you want to extend your stay.
- You are already in a Schengen country and you want to come in Belgium.
1. You are already in Belgium and you want to extend your stay
This insurance policy is required by Foreign Office in Brussels to extend your scientific stay, which should also be supported by a grant. This insurance policy must cover you for a maximum amount of 30,000 euros and at least until the end of your stay. You must subscribe to it in Namur, during your stay and before its extension.
For example, imagine that you arrive on January 1st for 3 months and are then supposed to leave on March 31st. Then you learn on March 10th, that your research in Namur can be extended for three more months. You must then immediately subscribe to the insurance covering you from April 1st until June 30th. After this you must go back to the Town Hall, with the listed documents on the page "Déclaration d’arrivée", to receive the authorisation to extend your stay.
Foreign Office accepts the insurance policy from AXA Company. You must subscribe to the policy in person. Ask for an appointment, or subscribe online: https://www.axa-schengen.com/en

2. You are already in a Schengen country and you want to come in Belgium
This insurance could also be required from a non-EU national who lives in a EU country and who wants to extend the visa for a stay in Belgium, when the validity of the initial visa ends before the date of departure from Belgium. If this happens to be your case, you must subscribe to this insurance in the country where you live and send the contract copy to the Belgian embassy.
