The Department of Psychology is one of the four departments in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Namur. Established in 1978, it has been particularly active in various fields of research in human and social sciences as well as in health, with a particular interest for the vulnerable persons, neuroscience and eHealth.

The Department of Psychology offers courses within the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Namur, but also in the School of Public Health at the University of Louvain.

In the human and social sciences, the department has gained national and international reputation in the qualitative studies of persons suffering from physical or mental disorders. Currently, the department is building a large longitudinal survey on well-being and collaborates in research on psychosocial risks at work. Researches led to the publication of approximately 200 papers and twenty books, as well as participation in numerous scientific conferences.

In the health sector, the psychology department is particularly interested in neuroscience, particularly with the creation of a battery of attentional tests, commonly used in clinic (BAWL for Batterie d’Attention William Lennox). The department also has a technological platform for the evaluation of mouse behavior, in partiular in genetically modified populations and to serve the evaluation of research-derived molecules. The department also works in the field of systemic neuroscience with the use of brain imaging.

Recently, the department started to work in the field of eHealth and collaborates on research projects using mobile applications to track the health and well-being*.
